1A3-Training
Knowledge dissemination is critical in support of technological innovation of SMEs active in the wind energy (WE) field. The objective of WP1A.3 is the development of a number of modules for courses in the field of WE and the necessary supporting training material. This in order to provide a suitable vehicle for the training of industrial engineers (in SMEs), students, as well of energy planners, project developers and consultants on the state-of-the-art knowledge and expertise produced from the other WPs of UpWind in all WE related topics.
Starting with a survey of existing training infrastructure and liaison with experts in the field, information will be collected about existing WE training programs all over the EU. A list of the organisations involved in WE training will be compiled, and direct contacts will be made with them in order to discuss the courses content and duration, student characteristics, assessment methods and minimum skill levels.
This WP will also set up a Wind Energy Information and Education Network (WEIEN), using hardware and software offered by the German project REnKnow.Net. A restricted area will be created for WEIEN members providing all functionalities of the REnKnow.Net website:
• Database for up- and downloading of documents;
• Forum for discussion;
• An OS "Knowledge Creation" tool;
• Peer-review process.
The specific training materials that are required for the different target groups will be determined in the development of the modular approach. This will be achieved by surveying representatives from target groups and compiling the results. Next, an agreement will be reached between partners about the specific modules that need to be developed for integration into existing and new WE courses.
These tasks will be implemented during the first 18-months of the project. After that, existing materials will be reviewed and updated to incorporate all recent developments. New ones will be developed for topics not covered before. For each module, three sets of supporting material will be produced:
• Units ready for incorporation into an
e-learning environment;
• Presentations (PowerPoint show
files);
• Lecturers' notes , with full texts for
detailed information about each subject.
WP1A.3 products will be promoted by the partners during its last Phase related to the dissemination of the results through pilot applications. Universities will use the modules developed for delivering courses to post-graduate students or for incorporating them into existing WE courses. Research institutes will use selected modules to run seminars on the main aspects of WE for key market actors. Finally, a workshop for PhD candidates with engineering background will be organised.
